Dental crowns are a trusted restorative treatment used to protect and strengthen a tooth that is damaged, weakened, or heavily restored. At Forest Hills Dental Associates, crowns are crafted to restore the tooth’s shape, function, and appearance—so you can chew comfortably and smile with confidence.
A crown is a custom “cap” that covers the visible portion of a tooth. Your dentist may recommend a crown if a tooth has a large cavity, a crack, significant wear, or a large filling that no longer provides enough support. Crowns are also commonly placed after root canal therapy to reinforce the tooth and reduce the risk of fracture. In addition, crowns can improve the appearance of teeth that are severely discolored, misshapen, or uneven, creating a more balanced and natural-looking smile.
Getting a crown typically takes two visits. At the first appointment, the tooth is gently prepared by removing damaged areas and shaping it so the crown fits securely. Impressions are taken—often digitally—to create a crown that matches your bite and blends with surrounding teeth. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent restoration is made. At the second visit, the final crown is fitted, adjusted for comfort, and cemented in place.
Crowns can be made from durable, natural-looking materials such as porcelain or ceramic. With good home care and routine checkups, crowns often last many years. Brushing, flossing, and avoiding habits like chewing ice or using teeth as tools can help protect your restoration.
Forest Hills Dental Associates takes a patient-focused approach, emphasizing comfort, precision, and long-lasting results—so your crown feels strong, looks natural, and functions reliably every day.
