Digital X-rays are a safe, efficient way to help your dentist see what’s happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums. At Forest Hills Dental Associates, digital imaging supports early detection, accurate diagnosis, and precise treatment planning—often before problems become painful or more costly to treat.
Many dental concerns can’t be seen during a visual exam alone. Digital X-rays help identify cavities between teeth, infections near the tooth root, bone loss from gum disease, impacted teeth, and changes beneath existing fillings, crowns, or bridges. They also allow your dental team to monitor dental development in children and teens and track changes over time for adults.
Compared to traditional film X-rays, digital X-rays use significantly less radiation and provide clear images almost instantly. The process is quick and comfortable: a small sensor is placed in your mouth, and the images appear on a screen within seconds. Because the images are digital, they can be enlarged and enhanced, helping your dentist explain findings clearly and involve you in decisions about your care. Digital files can also be stored securely and shared easily when referrals or specialist consultations are needed.
Digital X-rays are frequently used when planning restorative treatment such as crowns, bridges, extractions, implants, or root canal therapy. They help your dentist evaluate the roots and surrounding bone to support predictable outcomes.
Your dentist will recommend X-rays based on your age, symptoms, dental history, and risk for decay or gum disease. If you’re pregnant or have special medical considerations, let the team know so appropriate precautions can be taken.
At Forest Hills Dental Associates, digital X-rays are part of a proactive approach—providing detailed information, supporting preventive care, and helping you maintain a healthy, confident smile.
